Responsible gambling

If you gamble, keep it a form of entertainment you can afford — and know where to find help.

Adults only

Gambling is only for people aged 18 or over. In some places the legal minimum age is higher — for example 21 for some forms of gambling in parts of the United States — so check the rules where you live. Gambling by anyone under the legal age is not allowed.

Safer gambling

  • Decide in advance how much money and time you will spend, and stop when you reach the limit.
  • Only gamble with money you can afford to lose — never with money for rent, bills or food.
  • Do not chase losses, and do not borrow to gamble.
  • Avoid gambling when you are upset, stressed or have been drinking.
  • Use the tools licensed operators commonly provide, such as deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion.

Warning signs

Gambling more than you planned, feeling you need to win back losses, hiding gambling from people close to you, borrowing money to gamble or feeling anxious when you are not gambling can all be signs that gambling has become a problem.
